Barn Tour

For those of you that weren't on the barn tour, this is the interior of a famous barn in Peoria County that was a signal location on the Underground Railroad. If a lantern could be seen gleaming thru the cross near the roof, it was safe for the slaves to pass thru (or maybe it meant it was not safe -- CRS again). Whatever!

This is a 5-exposure HDR image created using a monopod for stability. I think future efforts will benefit from a tripod. Raymond has trouble holding a monopod (especially that one) steady enuf for the long exposures required by HDR.

Enjoy!

  1. Neat photo and story. Thanks for sharing. Which variable do you change to get the range of exposure? Film speed, shutter speed, lens opening, other?

Now I know why my camera has exposure bracketing. Where might I look for processing software?

    Thanks, Pete

  2. Is the bridge-water photo also HDR?

  3. i use aperture-priority auto exposure, which means tha camera keeps the f/stop constant and varies the shutter speed. i shoot raw files, altho the software can also process jpegs. i shoot 5 exposures for best quality (altho 3 can also be used) at 4 stops over, 2 stops over, normal, two stops under and 4 stops under. i use photomatix software (about $125 downloadable from photomatix.com) and then tweak significantly in photoshop. photochop cs3 and cs4 also have the ability to create hdr, but photomatix is so much better.

the bridge shot was taken in 1972 or 3 on b&w film (6x9 cm neg), scanned into photoshop cs3 and tweaked.
